Mother’s Day as we know it is a rather recent holiday, though it is not a “Hallmark holiday” made to sell more cards. There are a number of Mothering day or Mom-focused holidays in history like Mothering Day in the UK, Cybele in ancient Greece, or Mothering Sunday in much of Europe. Mother’s Day was trademarked by Anna Jarvis in 1912. Mother’s day was precisely chosen to be a singular possessive meaning it was meant for each family to recognize their mother, not plural possessive that would be used to respect all the mothers of the world. Following congressional approval, It was officially established on May 9, 1914 when president Woodrow Wilson made the official statement proclaiming Mother’s day as a national holiday to be celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May. Mother’s Day has subsequently observed by many other countries and cultures. In many cases, the date was changed to fit existing celebrations or to correspond with a significant date which are for the most part religious. As a result, Mother’s Day is celebrated in February in Norway and on December 22nd in Indonesia, with a great many other dates in between celebrated by other countries and cultures. One of the traditions of Mother’s Day is to give your mother a treat along with good wishes as a way to show your respect to her. If you live near by (and are visiting your mom regularly!) you possibly have a good idea what to buy her. On the other hand, those of us that don’t live in the area can be at a entire loss. Consider the interests Mom take pleasure in a perhaps send her a present with that theme. Gift baskets are wonderful when it comes to gifts with a theme. If your mom take interest in golf there are golf themed gift baskets. Maybe she is into tea and relaxation then send a nice tea baskets or a relaxing bath gift basket. Maybe she take pleasure in fine wine and you know she likes red wine or white wine or even champagne. There are lots of great wine gift baskets to pick from that showcase wine which would make a ideal mothers day basket. The selections are many and what a gift baskets does, is give you a nice variety of goodies that she will delight in with the theme she will appreciate. Rather than sending kitchen gadgets yet again this year, you might consider a BV Cabernet Red Wine Gift Basket. We include a bottle of BV Cabernet Sauvignon red wine and gourmet munchies: Wine-flavored cheese spread, smoked Gouda cheese, crackers, Olives, Chocolates, gourmet cookies, nuts, and popcorn. Red wine baskets make a great thank you basket, welcome basket, anniversary basket and more. Another thing to think about here is the useful factor. What I mean by this is quite a few of the gifts that you give your Mother are either unnecessary or something she will never us. So, consider something green, useful and best of all reusable. The green and reusable is the present holder which could be a reusable basket or even a 100% recycled reusable shopping bag. The useful is the great gourmet foods or the high quality lotions and soaps in the basket. Why not send her something special and extraordinary this Mother’s day!
